Residents filled the Morinville Community Cultural Centre on May 13 for this year’s Thrifted
Fashion Show and Clothing Swap, an event celebrating sustainable fashion, community
involvement and creativity.
The evening combined a community runway show, live student music and a large-scale
clothing swap designed to encourage residents to reuse and recycle clothing rather than
send items to landfill.
Volunteer models of all ages took to the runway wearing thrifted outfits ranging from casual
wear to formal attire, drawing applause from the crowd throughout the evening.
Alongside the fashion show, attendees browsed tables of donated clothing and accessories
while students from Morinville Community High School provided live music during the
event.
Fusion Thrift Shoppe contributed clothing donations, coordinated volunteer models and
provided door prizes for attendees.
Students and staff from Morinville Community High School also helped organize and
support the evening through modelling, hospitality, hair and makeup, clothing sorting and
cleanup efforts.
The event also featured a presentation from GSACRD Voice focused on the connection
between mental health and thrifting. School Board Trustee Kelsey Hynes delivered the land
acknowledgement.
Organizers thanked the many volunteers, community groups and residents who contributed
to the event’s success.
The annual event continues to grow as a community-focused initiative promoting
sustainability, creativity and local connection through fashion and reuse.
