Morinville Fire Department celebrates 75 years of service and community

By Shelley Winger

This past weekend, the Morinville Fire Department proudly marked its 75th anniversary with a

heartwarming celebration that brought together past and present firefighters, their families, and

community members. The milestone event was a chance to honour decades of dedicated service,

reflect on shared memories and celebrate the camaraderie that defines this vital institution.

Tears of joy, warm hugs, and stories from years of service filled the evening as attendees

reconnected with friends who felt like family. Firefighters and their spouses took the time to

reminisce about memorable calls, training experiences, and the daily challenges that come with

protecting a community. The laughter, shared memories, and emotional moments highlighted not

only the bravery of those who serve but also the deep bonds formed over decades of teamwork

and dedication.

A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a plaque dedicated to St. Florian, the patron saint

of firefighters. The moment was deeply moving, with many attendees visibly touched by the

recognition of the sacrifices and dedication of the men and women who have served the

department throughout its history. The plaque will soon be installed on the department’s hose

tower as a lasting tribute to their service.

The celebration also offered a chance to reflect on the department’s rich history. Since its

founding 75 years ago, the Morinville Fire Department has grown from a small group of

dedicated volunteers into a cornerstone of the community, responding to emergencies, supporting

local events and providing safety and reassurance to generations of residents. While the names

of early fire chiefs and volunteers may fade over time, their impact on the town remains ever-

present.

“It truly felt like coming home,” shared one attendee, capturing the warmth and nostalgia of the

evening. “Seeing everyone again, hearing the stories, and celebrating together reminded me of

why this department is such a special part of our town.”

The department’s work extends far beyond emergency response. Over the years, firefighters have

played a key role in educating the community on fire safety, participating in parades and

fundraisers, and providing support during local crises. Their presence has become a constant

reminder of dedication, bravery, and community spirit, and their relationships with the

townspeople run deep.

Looking ahead, the Morinville Fire Department shows no signs of slowing down. With ongoing

training, new equipment, and a continued focus on teamwork, the department is prepared to meet

the challenges of the future while maintaining the strong traditions that have defined it for three-

quarters of a century. The 75th anniversary celebration was a tribute not only to the past but also

a reaffirmation of the department’s commitment to protecting Morinville for years to come.

The evening also celebrated the families behind the firefighters—the spouses, children, and

loved ones who have supported them through long nights, intense training, and challenging calls.

Their presence and stories reminded everyone that firefighting is not just a career, but a lifestyle

that touches every part of a firefighter’s life. The shared laughter, hugs, and tears of joy made the

night feel like one big extended family reunion.

Beyond the history and ceremony, the event underscored the ongoing mission of the Morinville

Fire Department: to protect and serve the community with courage, dedication, and teamwork.

Current and former firefighters alike left the evening with renewed pride in their roles, grateful

for the recognition and the connections that have lasted a lifetime.

As the celebration came to a close, attendees left with hearts full of pride and gratitude. The 75th

anniversary was more than a milestone—it was a testament to decades of service, sacrifice, and

unwavering commitment to the Morinville community. With a foundation built on courage,

teamwork, and friendship, the Morinville Fire Department is ready to continue its mission for the

next 75 years and beyond.
