Bon Accord’s community was filled with various festivities during the annual Bon Accord Harvest Days Festival. The events and celebrations took place August 5 through August 7.

Amanda Houlihan, the event organizer, said, “it was sad to see the slo-pitch tournament cancelled due to flooding in the fields; however, it did not impact the event too large. It was still a great year! We hope to bring it back next year!”

Members of Bon Accord gathered Saturday morning for the annual parade with 27 floats on 47 Avenue and 50 Street. Many attendees exclaimed the parade was an exciting showcase for friends and family and a great way to begin the celebratory day. After the parade, the vendor market, kid’s activities, and golden gems were all events that opened to the public outside the Bon Accord arena. The vendor market had 32 tables set up, featuring local vendors and trucks that offered food, beverages, and homemade goods to the festival attendees. Outside of the arena, kid’s activities filled the area, many laughs and smiles were shared on the bouncy castles, pony rides and the rock wall, positively contributing to the family-friendly weekend-long festival. At the Jewel Box, the Golden Gems had offered attendees coffee and a slice of homemade pie and shared stories and good times. Saturday evening, the Harvest Days bean bag toss tournament was a great success with 14 teams which featured teams of all ages competing for victory. Concluding the night, the Town of Bon Accord hosted a fantastic firework show celebrating the successful day.

A pancake breakfast was held in early Sunday morning, the last day of the festival. The breakfast donated all proceeds to the Bon Accord Gibbons Food Bank. Following the breakfast, the CNN Spurs hosted a ball hockey tournament with 11 teams, engaging multiple community members to compete in a local game filled with excitement.

Many local community members stated the festival contributed to an unforgettable weekend and that the events were beyond successful. The food vendors, many volunteers and community members significantly contributed to a successful festival. Local Sponsors of the weekend-long celebration included Bon Accord and District Agricultural Society, and the Town of Bon Accord.

Houlihan said, “The weekend was a huge overall success, thanks to all the volunteers, especially the community! Without the community getting together and supporting the event, it would have never happened. We can’t wait to see what our 50-year celebration of Harvest Days brings next year!”
