Host your own block party

Are you looking for something fun and exciting to do with your neighbours this summer? The Town of Morinville offers step-by-step information on hosting your own block party.

The town states, “Block Parties are a great way to celebrate you and your neighbours and build a strong sense of community, connectedness, and a culture of care. Knowing your neighbours is a great way to increase neighbourhood pride and safety and build supports and networks.”

Download the “Hosting a Block Party document” and “Block Party Checklist.” Then recruit neighbours on your street to help with planning, choosing the location, date and time. Don’t forget to pick the type of block party you would like to host. A few examples could be barbecue, potluck, or an activity night. Three weeks ahead, you can fill out the “Block Party Application Form” and Neighbourhood Support Form.” The first four applications approved will receive a $75 gift card for Sobey’s! Two weeks away, you can put up posters of the event and invite all on your block, don’t forget to notify everyone of any traffic disruptions. One week away is the time to pick up any food and supplies or check in on what others are bringing. The day of your block party is for the setup and fun! Don’t forget to clean up and pick up any garbage and put traffic barricades at the drop-off address for Infrastructure Services to pick up.
