Morinville residents will have an opportunity to meet local firefighters, explore
emergency equipment and learn more about fire safety during the annual Partners in
Protection Morinville Fire Hall Open House.
The free, family-friendly event takes place October 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Don
Found Fire Station at 10021 100 Street. The open house is designed to bring residents and
local emergency services together in a relaxed, interactive setting while helping build
awareness around fire prevention and safety.
Residents of all ages can meet local firefighters and first responders, explore fire trucks
and equipment, learn more about fire prevention and safety, and even experience what it’s
like to use a fire hose. The hands-on activities are intended to give families a closer look
at the equipment and people they may encounter during an emergency, while making fire
safety information accessible and engaging for children.
“This year’s Open House will also include representatives from the RCMP, Alberta
Health Services, Enforcement Services and Morinville’s policing committees,” said
Correna Saunders, communications specialist with the Town of Morinville.
Having several community protection partners together at the event gives residents an
opportunity to meet more of the people who respond when help is needed. It also
provides families with a chance to ask questions, learn about the different roles of local
emergency services and make positive connections within the community.
“We hope residents leave the event with a better understanding of fire prevention and the
simple steps they can take to help keep themselves and their families safe,” Saunders
said.
The open house will also give residents a chance to meet Morinville’s local on-call
firefighters and learn more about the skills and dedication involved in the role. For
families, it can be an opportunity to put a familiar face to the people who volunteer their
time and training to help protect the community.
“Just as importantly, the Open House gives residents an opportunity to meet their local
on-call firefighters, learn more about the skills and dedication involved in the role, and
build positive connections with the people who help keep our community safe,” Saunders
said.
Free food and refreshments will be available throughout the event. A hot dog lunch is
being supported by Chris and Tracey’s No Frills, while Tim Hortons Morinville is
supporting free coffee and hot chocolate, giving families another reason to stick around
and visit with local emergency-service representatives.
The open house is free to attend and no registration is required.
