On February 15, Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) hosted a vibrant Tacos & Tunes event at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre, blending an adoption event with a lively cabaret to raise funds for the organization’s Walls for Winter program.
The Walls for Winter initiative provides insulated dog and cat houses to help northern companion animals who live outdoors during the cold winter months. The evening was filled with fun and community spirit, featuring an all you can eat taco bar, margaritas, and live music by local band Calico Road. Guests also enjoyed watching the 4 Nations Cup on a big screen, taking part in a silent auction, and trying their luck at a wine raffle.
Brenda from SCARS shared her deep appreciation for the community’s support, expressing, “Our heartfelt thanks to all our supporters who made the event such a success. A great time was had by all, we found homes for some of our animals with an adoption event held earlier that day and raised much-needed funds for our Walls for Winter shelter program.” However, she also highlighted the urgent challenges the organization is facing, saying, “Our rescue is in crisis mode due to the number of help requests we receive every day. Animals suffer terribly in the cold, and without more adoptions and foster homes, we simply don’t have the space or resources to take in every animal. We are now having to prioritize intake. Please help us by fostering or adopting.”
Guests at the event had a great time while also taking the chance to connect with the SCARS team, explore volunteer opportunities, and support animals in need. With the ongoing challenges of increased demand and limited resources, Brenda’s call for more foster families and adoptions remains critical. Thanks to the attendees of the event and ongoing support, SCARS is able to continue providing care to animals in need.
