The Bob Foster Extreme Sports Park is expected to be the most rocking place in town as the annual Rock the Rails event takes place on Friday, August 19 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A hundred or more youth will take to scooters, skateboards, bikes, and roller skates to hone their skills and show off their best hops, jumps, tail whips, wheelies, and other tricks off the jumps and half pipes. If the thrill of decks and boards scraping ramps and rails wasn’t already enough, the event will offer up cool contests, local food trucks, and incredible demos from House of Wheels, an indoor skate park with locations in Edmonton and Calgary, that are sure to be a hit with youth and parents alike. The event, organized by the Town of Morinville, wraps up with an opportunity for participants to express their creative side with some legal graffiti.
“We’re excited to provide youth the opportunity to express themselves in a fun, safe, and unique way,” said Barb Adamson, Community Recreation Coordinator for the Town of Morinville.
The Bob Foster Extreme Sports Park, or Morinville Skate Park as it may be better known, is one the biggest skateboard, scooter, and bike parks in the region offering 13,000 square feet of concrete, an 8-foot bowl, half pipe, ramps, and plenty of parking. Information about Rock the Rails and the park can be found at www.morinville.ca.
