The community garden in Morinville has put together a group that allows you to have great conversation, learn something new, and get a little dirty! Offered are two private garden rental sites: the United Church at 9610 Morinville Drive, Champlain Park at 99 Avenue, and 104 Street. You and your loved ones can enjoy and relax in some of their private areas, including a basketball net, gazebo, picnic table and benches.

The group is working on bringing everyone together to grow organic vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Whether you have a green thumb or not, the group thrives on learning and teaching, whether that is how to plant seeds, take care of plants, recycle through compost or the proper timing for harvesting your food. They invite all to join or come over for a chat with any of the members. The Garden Society loves when people stop in to pick fresh berries or food but are asking you to make sure the food is ready for harvest, which you can get the information from one of their members.

When it comes to harvesting, if there is any food leftover, the community garden members quickly donate fresh fruits or vegetables to the local food bank in Morinville.

Johanna Silver, the President, said, “As for me personally, I am not much of a green thumb. We initially joined because my husband likes to grow our food, and our backyard doesn’t get much sunlight, so the community plot rental was ideal for our family. I got involved because I was drawn to the community aspect of the garden, and I am passionate about doing what I can to help make our wonderful town even better. I love that as a garden member. I can play a small role in planning the events we have participated in, such as Culture Days and the Morinville Pride Picnic. These events are great ways for us as an organization to get involved in the community and give us a chance to welcome new people into our beautiful space.”
