Through the second week of July, Rock Camp Alberta and its participants have been busy preparing for a showcase for the community to enjoy at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre on July 9.
The program was designed for attendees to home in on their talents and learn to work in an intensive setting. The staff are enthusiastic Alberta-certified teachers who ensure high-quality instruction. To join the camp, children needed to be between the ages of 12-19 and have a minimum of two years of instrument experience. Many kids signed up with knowledge of the guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboard, tambourine, and vocals.
The kids were taught to prepare a five-song set in a band setting, produce recordings, and perform in the ultimate rock show on their last day of camp. They were placed in bands according to the genre of music each student played. Players then got to create their band names, design logos, choose concert attire, and choose a band image for a photo shoot.
Crowds flooded into the Morinville Community Cultural Centre to see the rock show! The band Trusted by Millions played a fantastic pop-rock set. LD-50 had the group singing to classic rock. People were head-banging to the pure heavy metal played by Aggression Obsession. Judgment Day sang harmoniously with classics that groove. Last Resort had guests at the edge of their seats with gritty rock. Finally, Overdrive had the room fists in the air with rock and roll.
Shannon Kolotyluk, director of Rock Camp said, “we are so proud of the level of effort shown by all participants. They worked incredibly hard to prepare for the concert. The sound coming out of the rehearsal was incredible! The concert was amazing!”
Concertgoers left the show with smiles and were pleased with the fantastic performances.
