A new business is opening in Gibbons! The Country Bumpkin General Store is officially opening its doors on March 15th and is now allowing customers in for a sneak peek. The Country Bumpkin is in one of Gibbons’ oldest standing buildings. This building once served as stables, then a local grocery store, and eventually a hair salon. The character and history of this site are evident as soon as you walk in the door.
Amanda Nimigon, the owner of the Country Bumpkin General Store, has maintained the old town atmosphere in the store with an abundance of wood shelving and back-to-basics decor. Nimigon, a 12-year resident of Gibbons, also includes her family in the exciting new business. Her mother, Sandra Roberts, is a talented artist who has created the gnomes, leatherwork, stained glass pieces, and many other unique products that can be found in the store. There are also displays of resin artwork and paintings completed by Nimigon’s daughters, Amber and Erica.
Many other treasures can be found in the Country Bumpkin, including a collection of board games, special occasion cards, craft and baking supplies, helium balloons for parties, wedding accessories, homemade decor signs, and gift-wrapping service. In addition, Nimigon is excited to showcase the artistic talent in the Gibbons area. If you have unique, handmade products you would like to display and sell, be sure to drop in and chat with Amanda. Also, a variety of custom creations will be available for order.
When asked why Nimigon opened an old-fashioned market, she explained, “I wanted residents to have this convenience in town. I wanted to get away from the commercial feel and give local, talented artists the chance to show off their talents.”
The Country Bumpkin General Store is also planning to offer various afternoon craft sessions if there is interest. These could include paint groups, crocheting, and outside decor crafts for the spring gardens. The general store has been renovated to include a craft room for these group sessions. Initially, Nimigon hopes to focus on bringing in seniors or moms who would like an afternoon out. Also, she sees these creative sessions as wonderful opportunities to get to know our neighbours on a reasonable budget. These could also lead to evening get-togethers with crafts for kids. Nimigon talked passionately about facilitating more community involvement, especially after these past years of pandemic isolations. She is also excited about spending time with the citizens of Gibbons and sharing stories with the seniors.
It is refreshing to see a local entrepreneur investing in the community despite the difficult times we’ve been experiencing. It’s exciting to have a unique family business on Main Street, Gibbons. This new country marketplace allows our local artists to show their talents and reconnect with neighbours. Best of luck to the Country Bumpkin General Store as Amanda Nimigon, and her family, help create new memories for the residents of Gibbons.
