Morinville shoppers now have another opportunity to buy local. Fusion Thrift Shoppe officially opened on February 1 with a ribbon cutting by Mayor Simon Boersma. More than 30 people and three Town Councillors cheered as the mayor cut the ribbon with Store Manager Jocelyn Hansen.
“It’s amazing to see the Fusion Thrift Shoppe here in town,” said Mayor Boersma. “We are also excited about the fact that the building is now open, so thank you very much. I know that a lot of time has gone into it with all your volunteers.”
Mayor Boersma thanked the management and staff for being community minded in their approach to serving the local area. The store is on 100 Avenue in the same premises where the Body Shop Fitness Centre operated.
The store is operated by Fusion Canada, a Christian charity established in Australia 60 years ago. They are in 24 countries and have been in Canada for over 20 years.
“Thanks to everybody in Morinville for supporting us,” said store manager Hansen. “People have been super generous with the beautiful donations, and we’re truly thankful because we couldn’t have done it without volunteers and without incredible donations.”
Fusion Thrift Shoppe intends to partner with local organizations such as Jessie’s House, Victim Services, RCMP, the Rotary Club, Kinsmen, seniors’ centres, churches and the Town of Morinville.
“We want to be a partnership in town, so we want to work with anybody that wants to work with us to find creative ways to serve the community,” said Hansen. Fusion Thrift Shoppe is a registered charity that can provide tax receipts for cash donations. For details, visit www.fusioncanada.ca.
